This document contains: - About SAPI Compliant Speech Engines - Microsoft Property; Not Shareware - Conflict with Write Out Loud Speech Engine - Important Installation Instructions: - For More Information About SAPI Compliant Speech Engines ****************************************** With the release of Windows 95, Microsoft established the Speech Application Programming Interface (SAPI) standard. The SAPI standard provided a common protocol on which programs could interface with speech engines. The SAPI standard evolved through several revisions called "versions". The more recent and more stable version is 4.0. In order for an application to use a SAPI compliant speech engine, the application and the engine must be SAPI compliant. UltraKey 3.0 and UltraKey 4.0 are SAPI version 4.0 compliant. Some speech engines may be SAPI compliant but not SAPI version 4.0. A Don Johnston product, Write Out Loud, included a speech engine of this description and conflicts arose. See the note later on in this document. Microsoft Property; Not Shareware ****************************************** The UltraKey 4.0 CD Windows format contains a SAPI version 4.0 compliant speech engine and a voice collection courtesy of Microsoft. The engine and voices are the property of Microsoft and are provided here with Microsoft's permission. The engine and voices are not shareware. We have tested the engine on a limited range of computers and determined that it was reliable enough to distribute to our customers. However, please install the engine and voices solely at your own risk. Conflict with Write Out Loud Speech Engine ****************************************** An older version of IBM ViaVoice has been distributed by Don Johnston Incorporated with their product Write Out Loud. The engine (not Write Out Loud) conflicts with UltraKey. You can contact Don Johnston for a replacement engine or you can install the speech engine provided with UltraKey. In our tests, the provided speech engine proved compatible with Write Out Loud. Important Installation Instructions: ****************************************** First, uninstall any other engines from your computer using the Add/Remove programs control panel. You should uninstall any older engine or any other non-SAPI engine. In particular, you should uninstall Microsoft Speech Engine 2.0 or 3.0. Run SPCHAPI.EXE Then run MSTTSL.EXE For More Information ****************************************** For more information or purchase inquiries visit our web site at: http://www.bytesoflearning.com Email: North American Sales: sales@bytesoflearning.com International Sales: intl@bytesoflearning.com Technical Support: techhelp@bytesoflearning.com Phone: North America: 1-800-465-6428 International: +1-905-947-4646 Fax: +1-905-475-8650 In Canada and the UK: Bytes of Learning Incorporated 445 Apple Creek Blvd., Suite 204 Markham, Ontario L3R 9X7 Canada In the US: Bytes of Learning Incorporated 60 Industrial Parkway.
